Healing Communities Through Permaculture Gardening

Mission Statement

Gardyn-Doulah is a social enterprise that empowers families and communities to grow their own food by providing permaculture garden design services and community-oriented gardening education. We aim to create self-sustaining food systems that promote resilience, sustainability, food security, and soil regeneration through healing practices and community engagement.

About Roxana M. Segovia-Beltran

I’m a permaculture designer, educator, and founder of Gardyn-Doulah, where I help people reconnect with the land through regenerative gardening and community education.

Over the past 17 years, I’ve grown gardens that feed both people and the planet—from small urban yards to educational food forests. My work blends ecological design, cultural heritage, and mindfulness, helping families and communities create spaces that sustain health, joy, and belonging.

Roxana M. Segovia-Beltran

Roxana M. Segovia-Beltran is the founder of Gardyn-Doulah, a social enterprise dedicated to guiding people and communities in cultivating regenerative gardens that nourish both land and spirit.

For over 17 years, she has immersed herself in the art and practice of gardening, blending her experience as a permaculturist, conservationist, educator, entrepreneur, doula, and mother to advocate for ecological healing and community empowerment.

Roxana has managed vegetable gardens at Forested—a forest garden and permaculture education site—and at Howard Community College, where she led programs connecting students and community members to the land through hands-on, regenerative practices. As Garden Manager, she worked alongside hundreds of volunteers, growing hundreds of pounds of fresh produce each season for food access programs and community distribution—demonstrating how small spaces and shared effort can create large-scale impact.

A passionate teacher with 20 years of instructional experience, Roxana has also taught English as a Second Language (ESL), bringing patience, empathy, and cross-cultural awareness into every classroom and garden she tends.

Before founding Gardyn-Doulah, Roxana worked as a birth doula and childbirth educator, supporting families through one of life’s most transformative experiences. That deeply personal work became the foundation for Gardyn-Doulah, bridging her two passions—nurturing new life and cultivating growth. Just as she once guided parents through birth, she now guides individuals and communities through the process of becoming gardeners, fostering a sense of connection, resilience, and renewal.

Born in Southern California to a family rooted in both Mexico and El Salvador, Roxana carries forward the agricultural traditions of her ancestors—her grandfather was an avocado farmer whose care for the earth inspired her lifelong devotion to growing food and community.

She holds a BA in Gender, Ethnic, and Multicultural Studies, a Dual Permaculture Design Certificate (PDC) from the Reed Center, and a Professional Permaculture Certificate from Oregon State University. Her work is also deeply informed by her background in environmental policy, where she continues to advocate for more inclusive and sustainable local laws.

Roxana integrates gardening, mindfulness, and ecological awareness into daily family life. She finds joy in dance, meditation, and yoga, practices that mirror her approach to the garden—rooted, rhythmic, and ever-evolving.

Through Gardyn-Doulah, she aims to empower individuals and families to cultivate their own food, reconnect with the land, and build resilient, life-affirming communities guided by permaculture ethics and heart-centered design.

Gardyn-Doulah grows through connection.
