Beech Forest Grove
A community garden sanctuary in Swansfield Park
Beech Forest Grove is a volunteer-based community stewardship project in Swansfield Park, supported through Columbia Association’s Adopt-a-Spot / Weed Warrior program.
Together, neighbors and volunteers are helping care for this woodland edge through litter cleanup, invasive plant removal, mulch management, native planting, and seasonal education.
This is not a private garden or income-generating initiative. Gardyn-Doulah has donated the design concept and supports community coordination as part of its commitment to local environmental stewardship and community beautification.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this project approved?
Yes. This site is being cared for through Columbia Association’s Adopt-a-Spot / Weed Warrior stewardship structure.
Is this a private garden?
No. This is a community beautification and stewardship project in Open Space. The area remains accessible to the community.
Why is there mulch on the site?
Mulch is being used to suppress invasive plant regrowth, protect soil, reduce erosion, and help prepare areas for native plantings. Mulch areas will be managed and kept as neat and safe as possible.
Will trees be cut down?
No healthy trees will be removed by volunteers. Any tree concerns are referred to Columbia Association staff or approved tree professionals.
Why are invasive plants being removed?
Invasive plants can crowd out native plants, reduce habitat value, and limit biodiversity. Removing them helps restore a healthier woodland edge over time.
Will the space still be accessible?
Yes. The goal is to maintain clear access and create a more welcoming, cared-for space for neighbors, families, and volunteers.
How can neighbors share concerns?
Concerns related to the Columbia Association Open Space may also be directed to CA.
How is Gardyn-Doulah involved?
Gardyn-Doulah donated the site design and is helping facilitate community coordination as part of its commitment to local environmental stewardship, habitat restoration, and community beautification.
